Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having an awesome week so far. I started my externship yesterday. It was a very uneventful day, all I did was file faxes. Haha!  Wednesdays are admin days. I was told today is going to be pretty busy though. Hurry up Friday so I can do my nails!

I missed two Thankful Thursdays, I really love doing these posts because they keep me humble. And, I'm always amazed at all the kindess shown to me. I know I missed two weeks, as long I do them more often than not, that's what matters :D

Today I'm very thankful to some fellow bloggers. Last year when I started Funky Frenchies Blog I wrote several introduction letters to some established blogs. I was so nervous when I sent them, because you never know how some people will respond (some didn't.) I didn't know what the proper blogger etiquette was, but I knew not to drop my link in the comments section. Ok, so I didn't, but I kept reading that it was a no no. Just to be clear, I never did that.  Anyway, I want to thank these wonderful ladies for welcoming me to the nail polish community and making me feel at ease.

Carolina from Colores de Carol

Jane from Nailside

Carli from Vintage Musings of a Modern Pinup

Amy Grace from The Polished Perfectionist

Thank you ladies for setting a great example for this new comer and I hope I'm just a kind as you all have been to me.

Have a great day:D

Terrific Tuesday

Hi everyone, It's Terrific Tuesday! I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.

Today I have some pics of what I did this weekend. Not too many because my phone died :(

First I labeled bottles. These I used to experiment with placing the labels, so these are mine.

This the front of the bottle.

This is the back of the bottle. Diva was suppossed to look like Chic, but I forgot to change the font size. Exhilarating is small because I had to fit it on one line. All in all they look good.

Then I went to my bff's house and had a Funky Nails polish party. This is Sara giving her mommy a mani. She went all out and trimmed her nails, filed her nails, and used her all natural scrub. My bff's hands are silky smooth now.

My bff chose Chic. In the pic it looks more of a champagne color, but it's more a tan with gold shimmer. Very appropriate for work.

Have a great day everyone! :D

Self Reflection Sunday

Hi everyone, I've been away too long! It's been a stressful week. I was studying for 3 finals, researching diseases and presenting power points. I did not think this week was ever going to end! Sadly, I did not make the Dean's list, but I'm am graduating with honors! WHOO HOO!

Warning: This post is kinda sad, but it's a little of my history.

Today's Self Reflection is about forgivenes. If you followed me over at Funky Frenchies you know my mom was a victim  survivor of domestic violence. I say survivor because my mom was and is not not any one's victim! Anyway, I didn't tell you all the details. So, today I'm going to briefly explain. When I was 2 weeks old my biological father shot my mom in the head. My mom had to undergo a lot of physical therapy and was in a hospital an hour and half away from the hospital I was in (I had pneumonia.) I had to live in the hospital for almost a year because my grandmother didn't have anyone to provide me with child care. I've said before, I don't think today that would be allowed. I mean, come on to have a normal healthy baby live in the hospital for that long, not gonna happen. If it were today I probably would've been sent to foster care. Thank you Jesus for allowing me to born in old school 1972! So, I didn't meet my father until I was 12. I mean I've always known his name, but not who he was. Just goes to show that children hear much more than we think. Anyway, back to forgiveness. I was watching Oprah's Master Class one night and Iyanla Vanzant was on talking about by honoring our parents, we honor God. I was like, well I certainly honor my mother and she's also my dad, but my biological father, that's a different story. I always felt that because of him I was every one's source of gossip. "There's Minnie, isn't that so and so's daughter?" All eye's on me and not in a positive way either. Just someone to gossip about. I thought I'd put all that behind me. I forgave him for all the things he did. I've meet some of his relatives and even like them. I even have a half sister whom I love very much. But, is that enough? Am I truly honoring the fact that he's the wordly father God chose for me? Honestly, I'd have to say no. But, in that moment I chose to honor him as the father my Heavenly Father chose for me. I thought once I did, it would be enough. But no, that's not the case. I was put to the test at Cinco de Mayo party. I always wondered what I would do if someone asked me about him. Well, a lady asked me if my mother was 'Margaret.' I knew what she getting at, but all I said no. Then she outright asked me if my father was 'so and so.' I politely told her yes, but Margaret was not my mother, that my mother is Teresa. Truth be told, no one knows me well enough to ask me such a personal question. A relative by marriage (my father's side) was there and decided to gossip. It brought back a lot of old feelings. I was tempted to tell her something else, but chose to keep my thoughts to myself.

At that moment, I knew that I truly did forgive and honor him.

Self Reflection Sunday

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having an awesome weekend! I was supposed to be experimenting with a new mica supplier, but I've yet to receive the micas :( Anyway, I'm so sorry for not posting much. School is really kicking my butt! The great thing is this is my last week! Yay!

This week's Self Reflection is about selfishness. I'm not a selfish person by nature. I love to give gifts and go way overboard with the amount of money I spend and the gifts I buy. If I could give gifts as a career, I would. I think it would be totally awesome to do that everyday. Anyway, having said. What I am selfish with is my time. This is something I've been working on for the past few months. I love my quiet life though. I think this comes from living in a hospital for almost the 1st year of my life. But, that's a story for another day. Earlier this week one of my classmates celebrated her birthday in class. I was in the library working on a project and was invited to participate. Well, I had plans to leave early that day. As I was walking down the staircase, I caught myself, turned around and went back and participated in the festivities. See, I am making progress :D Another reason I think I'm selfish with my time is most everyone I know do things at the last minute. And, if you know me, I don't like last minute. Most of my family and friends live 30 to 45 minutes away. It takes me an hour to get ready and then I have to drive all that way. Argh! Hey, what can I say I'm a planner. I know not everything can be planned, but I like being prepared and not feeling as though I'm being rushed. For example, my nephew had his first communion ceremony yesterday. I was just told the day before. Which is a great improvement, because sometimes I'm not told until the very day. What I've just learned and I guess you could say, I had an "A ha" moment while typing this. My family and friends are going out of there way by inviting me to celebrate in their happiness and thus creating memories that last a lifetime. So, from here on out I'm going to do my best to not be selfish with my time, because I'm only denying myself.

Have a great day! :D

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day. Saturday I had school until 5:00, then my honey and I took his mom to eat. My sister came down from San Antonio, so we took my mom to eat on Sunday. It was a great, but busy weekend for me.

I'm almost done with this program and the next program starts in August, so I'll have a small break. Before that though, I have to do an externship at a health care facility for five weeks and then submit my resume and hopefully find employment! Man, I hope this S does not disappear form my chest! HAHA Ok, enough rambling :D

Today, I have Fatigues. I know I've shown this before, but I wanted to layer it over an orange. I love how fun this mani turned out! I used one coat over the orange and topped with Sally Hansen Anit-Chip TC.

Have a great day y'all! :D

Saturday, May 12, 2012

Hi y'all. I hope y'all's Saturday has been great. I've been studying for a midterm I have today. I know fun, right.

I'm on my way to school in a few minutes, so this is just a quick post.

I'm wearing Chic from Every Woman today. This is a nude with gold shimmer. I used two coats and topped with SV. I'm thinking I'm going to do a funky frenchie using Exhilarating on my tips,  I think the pink is gonna look awesome with Chic!

All pics are outside and in direct sunlight and shade.

Have a great day :D

Friday, May 11, 2012

Hi everyone, It's Friday, yay! I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. :D

So, the other day I posted a sneak peak of this on Twitter and FaceBook. Here I have the green from Every Woman. My honey has yet to name this so it's still nameless. It's has a ton of sparkle and shifts to blue in different lighting. I absolutely love this color! Ok, so, I'm biased! Haha! I used two coats and added Zoya Maisie and topped with SV. I haven't had time to do much of anything, I've had this on for the past four days! It's probably a first for me, but it's coming off tonight. I'm ready for something new :D

This is a pic heavy post. I also forgot to get a pic of the green on it's own. I'm sorry, I'll just have to redo this again :D Oh, at the end of the post I'm showing pics of day to day wear of my nails. All pics are outside in direct sunlight and shade.

Sorry about the dry cuticles and crazy position of my hands. I was at school when I took these pics and was trying to capture the color shift.

Thankful Thursday

Hi y'all, It's Thankful Thursday. I hope the week is flying by for you all.

I'm so thankful to have a wonderful friend whom I call Miss Baraka. Miss Baraka was my classmate until 2 months ago. We started school at the same time. We prayed and supported each other with our school work. She's the one who turned me on to the nail supply store that I now go to for most of my supplies. I never would have known about this store had she not told me. It's only 15 minutes away and I never knew. Now, I'm in there at least once a week. I can buy OPI's for $4, CC's for $4 (better deal at Ross though, if you can find them) Orly's for $4 (not the htf's though), Essie's for $4, color wheels for $2.50 (at Sally's they're 4+.) You name it, I can almost be sure it's there. I buy nail polish bottles for .33, but those I just use to experiment with, because she won't order a smaller handle for me. Miss Baraka was out and about one day and decided to go in there to see if they had anything useful that I may need. You see why I'm thankful for Miss Baraka? She's an awesome lady!

Have a great day everyone! :D

Hi everyone, I hope y'all's week is off to a great start. I was supposed to post this yesterday, but I've been so busy. I have only 3 weeks left of class time and then I go on externship. It's going to be a busy 3 weeks, but I'll try to post regularly.

Just a quick post.

So, this was my Monday mani. Vibrant, from my Every Woman Collection. I love this red. Ok, so I love all reds!  My camera went crazy, so I had to take this pic in the shade. It has an awesome holorific shimmer. I don't want to take this off EVER! Haha

Have a great day :D

Self Reflection Sunday

Hi everyone, I hope y'all's weekend has been great so far. Yesterday I went to my niece Olivia's 1st birthday party and watched the Cotto vs Mayweather fight and then my niece Athens spent the night. Today Athens wants to go get her nails done, so we're going to get manis. She chose the pink from the Every Woman Collection and I'm using Vibrant from the same collex. I'll post those sometime this week.

Today's Self Reflection Sunday is about confidence. I've never had confidence issues, on the contrary I think I had so much confidence that I came across as arrogant. While I've never and don't think of myself as better than anyone else. I've always felt that there wasn't anything that I couldn't do and I just did it. When I was a little girl we had one of those small swimming pools and all my cousins would splash around and go under water, just having fun like kids do. Well, me, I'd just sit and watch them have fun, because I was afraid of going under water. When we had to go inside, I sat by the window and stared at that pool and said I want to go under water too! So, I marched myself outside and sat in that pool for what seemed an eternity and then took the plunge! I felt an overwhelming sense of confidence that I did it.

We had a two level storage house on one side of the property we lived on. My brother, sister, and my cousins would climb the ladder up to the attic part of the house. I was too afraid. But, when they left, I said I'm going up there! I didn't think about how I was going to get down. I think I sat up in that attic for about an hour contemplating how I was going to get down. Finally, my mom starting looking for me and I thought, well I gotta for sure get down somehow. I sighed and said just don't look down. My mom was so mad I was up there by myself. Haha!

Another time, I was on the road with my cousin's bike. I think I was too small yet to have a two wheeled bike, but I wanted to know how to ride a bike too. So, I'm standing with the bike thinking how on earth am I gonna do this? As I was standing in the road Jessie Gonzales (an old family friend) was going to my house and found me there and asked me if I wanted him to teach me to ride the bike and me being me said no, but could you just get me on the bike. He did and then left or so I thought. He stayed by a tree and watched me teach myself how to ride that bike and to make sure I didn't hurt myself.

All of this to say, I still have an abundance of confidence, but I'm much more aware of the fact that my confidence comes from God and not me. Even now, I think to myself, how selfish of me to think I could accomplish anything on my own. I think I'm much more positive in the way I carry myself and hope I no longer come across as arrogant. I'm still a work in progress, but I hope I never feel so confident that I've reached my full potential because that would mean I don't need God in my life (I do.) It would also mean (to me) that I'm content and don't want anymore than I do. And, I want to so much more that my cup runneth over!

Have a great day!

Saturday, May 5, 2012

Hi everyone, Happy Cinco de Mayo. I hope you all have some fun plans today. Today, I'm celebrating my niece Olivia's 1st birthday and watching the fight and then my other niece Athens is going to spend the night, boy I'm going to pooped tomorrow!

Just a quick post.

Ok, I have Diva from the Every Woman Collection. I tweaked this one because I felt the 1st one had too much black. You can see the difference in the pics.

Now, to make 7 layer dip and gucacamole! Yummy :D

                                                                 This is the 1st.

This is the final color

This is the 1st one swatched. Sorry it's a crazy pic, I know.

Final color.

Final color.

What do y'all think?

Have a great day.

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, It's Thankful Thursday! I hope you all are having an awesome Day. :D

Today, I'm so thankful you all are here with me. It means so much to me. I got teary eyed reading y'all's comments. Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I love y'all :D

I know yesterday I said I was going to remix Hooah! and I did but I didn't like the end result. It did however give me inspiration for another collection I'd like to do in the future. So, For the Troops Collection will only be Fatigues and Star Spangled Banner.

I told you all that I would be sharing everything Funky Nails. So, here goes.I did a really dark purple, but it was so dark it looked almost black, so I remixed it to make it more purple and not so black. I'll post more about that Saturday. Also, for the Every Woman Collection, I have names for all but two of them. My honey is naming the green, so I'm looking for ideas for the pink. What I'm looking for is something fun and playful and only one word. Something that describes the woman wearing pink. I do have a word in mind, but it's the reason I'm so traumatized against pink and totally won't do. I will of course give you that polish if, your name is chosen. I look forward to see what you all come up with.

Have a great day. :D

Pink Wednesday

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having a great week so far.

I went to my mom's yesterday and she had chickens! Chickens, on her porch! I'm like this could only be my grandmother's idea. I was raised in the country with chickens, pigs, cows, geese, you name it we probably had it. But that was in the country not in the middle of town! All I could do was shake my head. The things my mom does to make my grandmother happy. I giggled a little, the neighbors probably think they lost their minds. Haha :D

Today, I have Caviar Dreams by Funky Nails :D from her :D Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Collection. For my base color I used Savvy Party Pink (my defiance against what I was advised) Anyway, I think they're being discontinued. So, Caviar Dreams is black and silver hex in a shimmery silver base. I love the color combo! I'm thinking I'm going to add more silver and less black. Idk, just thought. What do you guys think? Ok, I have a delima. I was ordering the glitter for Hooah! (from For the Troops Collection) and it's out of stock. I don't know if it's going to be available when I launch. I can remix it with a different pink/purple glitter, but I really like this color. So, what I'm going to do is remix a bottle and post the two side by side, so we can decide together. If, you want to participate that it is. I'll post those tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone :D

I must confess

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having a Terrific Tuesday.

I have a confession to make. When I decided to start Funky Nails. I didn't have plans to announce it until I had everything in place. Well, the reason I had to announce is because my niece Sara shared it on her blog Lacquer Addictions (check her out.) Anyway, I asked her if she would do the swatches for me, but I failed to mention I had not announced yet. It was an innocent mistake. But, you should have seen the look on my face when I read it. I did that deep intake of breath and was like HAY CARAMBA! lol Sara, if you're reading this, you didn't do anything but help me. If you know me in real life, you know I like to be in control of things. Well, the way I see it, it was God's way of telling me, "You gave this brand to me, how dare you try to be in control now!" Note to self: God is in control not me. :D

Please bear with me as I make changes to Funky Nails blog (remember I wasn't supposed to announce until everything was ready.) We'll be moving forward together :D

Have a nice day everyone :D
